Leaving kids to bake in the car
And I don’t mean baking with their Easy-Bake Oven.
Apparently, this is still a problem (I thought I blogged about it a while ago, but can’t find it). This SFGate article talks about the issue and includes tips so you don’t forget about your kid. Reading it, though, I have to wonder if the underlying cause of this problem is our crazy, multitasking lifestyle or simply… daycare. Every example of accidental death cited was a parent forgetting to drop the kid off at daycare.
I could go on about how this article nicely summarizes so many underlying problems with our society, but I don’t have time.
Thanks for the link, Merlin.

I read another article recently that chalked most of it up to kids being in the back seat all the time, like that article mentions. I can’t find the link, it was a Yahoo! news item a few weeks ago.
I agree that part of it has to do with multitasking, and possibly daycare (not being used to having your kid with you). But I generally don’t have the kid(s) in my car and when I do I never forget them…Or at least I don’t remember forgetting them…

Someone told me a horror story about this once and I it eats at me painfully every time I get in the car with ND. I agree with the multitasking fears. Even after I drop ND off, I find myself glancing back, just to be sure.
But oh, with my vivid imagination, it’s just torture to me to think about this.
