If I ever open a coffee shop…
…this is a reminder to get tables with smooth surfaces. The counter example is the Esquires Coffee in Ladysmith, BC that has these broken tile mosaic table tops (what do you call these things?). I dragged my very tall and very full cup towards me and the edge caught on the grouting. Luckily, the spill was minimal and I’m glad I had cooled the coffee somewhat with milk or my hand would have been scorched.

Darn! You could have sued!
Oh wait, that’s American-thinking.

I was so Canadian that I didn’t even say anything!

You were so Canadian that you wussed out, expecting an American to go talk to the shop owner for you, but alas, none was present because you have an inferiority complex that causes you to be rude to Americans, therefore, none would come socialize with you even if they had to!
It’s okay to be little brother. Embrace your role here in North America!

I saw a guy coming out of Starbucks with a grande coffee take a header in the un-shoveled slush in front of the store. (Very un-Canadian-ly, only one person helped him get up.) He went back into the store, and I would have placed bets that he *bought* another coffee.

Hi Jay,
Sounds Like I owe you a coffee…… One of my “many” future projects is replacing those table tops.
Take care.
