Stuck in Japan

I am live-blogging from a huge line at the Air Canada counter at Narita Airport. My flight home has been cancelled. I was as surprised as anyone, especially considering the Air Canada web site shows the flight departing on time.

I have no mobile phone anymore (my work phone doesn’t work in Japan) but my colleague in Israel is on the phone with the travel department trying to figure out what’s going on. I am instant messaging with him through the wonder that is the internet. This is the one bright point.

They just announced that the flight was cancelled “due to aircraft maintenance”. I’ve got news for you, Air Canada. You do “maintenance” to prevent this exact problem.

They are putting people on a Northwest flight to Seattle, but there are less than 30 seats left and there are more than 50 people in front of me.  Not good.
More later (if the line ever moves).

Ugh. Well, if you’re stuck there for another night, you can go visit my in-laws. Morey’s brother and his wife are real foodies and can show you a great time ;)

Actually, looking at the posting time, and figuring out what time it is now, then figuring out what time it is there in Japan (tomorrow!), you’re probably already on a plane. At least, I’m sure Ima & Shula are hoping you’re on a plane…

This summer I was on Cyprus, in Paphos. The most shocking place was the Castle of Paphos and Kato port. The castle is situated in the middle of the water and you can get there just on the boat or swimming. The castle is situated at the harbour, originally built as a Byzantine fort to protect the harbour and rebuilt by the Lusignans in the thirteenth century, then dismantled by Venetians, who found themselves unable to defend it against the Ottomans, who in their turn restored and strengthened it after they captured the island. It was destroyed in the earthquake of 1222, however it all the same keeps its forms. I fortunately found some cheap hotels on Cyprus - Cyprus Hotel and took enough accessibale excursion to the “spring of culture”, so the same I wish to you!!!

I’m back. I’ll detail our alternate travel arrangements in another post. It took over 24 hours to get home from when I got up Monday morning (Japan time).

Yes, I figured you must be back by now. I haven’t visited here in a while, but I did get your shanah tovah card with the lovely photo. Didn’t see any Japanese postage…

    Glad you’re home.
