“Kosher” Phone

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I hate stories like this: ‘Kosher’ Phone Merges Technology, Faith. For a religion that supposedly believes and teaches in free will, why do we need a phone that blocks sex line numbers and the like?  The story is about the ultra-orthodox, though, who always take things a little too far in my opinion.  Unfortunately, the craziness reflects on all Jews.
On the other hand, I know many people that would love it if their cell phone simply made phone calls! There’s got to be an untapped market there.

Bad Battery Luck

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

I’m on my way home from a quick trip to Edmonton where we visited a couple of printers.  I always take along a digital camera on these trips, but there was a mixup yesterday and the camera wasn’t available.  Luckily, we had some visitors from Kodak corporate who had an Easyshare One we could borrow on short notice.

Unfortunately, we didn’t take a charger (I forgot to ask in the panic to get to the airport) and I just hoped it would be alright given it was just for a day.  Of course, it wasn’t and the camera’s battery died after the morning visit.  We had a couple hours to kill, though, so we decided to go to West Edmonton Mall, get lunch, and try to find someplace who would charge the battery.

So, we go to London Drugs’ camera department and first ask if they have a battery we could purchase.  It turns out new batteries don’t come charged, though.  So, we explain our situation and ask if they can charge the battery for us.  The nice woman says sure and asks for my contact info, so I give her my card.  My Kodak card.

She says, “You work for Kodak and you don’t have a charger?!”

I laughed and replied, “Don’t ask!” and quickly walked out as fast as possible as a crowd of people looked on.

Smart VoIP

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Someone was thinking when they came up with Jajah.com.  Internet telephony that doesn’t require you to be tied to your computer with a headset or have to buy a special phone.  It’s cheap, too.

I’m not sure why, but I like this one.

Smelly Diapers

Friday, March 24th, 2006

We picked up some new diapers for the girl.  They have Bob the Builder on them which makes them very attractive as she (the little one, not the wife) is a big fan.  What we didn’t know until ripping the bag open is that they are scented.  Really scented.

What’s up with that?  Is the smell supposed to mask other, supposedly grosser, smells?  Perhaps some parents just like their babies smelling like perfume and this is the easiest way to do it.  Either way, I can’t stand it.

Besides the fact the perfume smell just bugs me, but (and if you’re not a parent, you may not understand this) it’s much better to smell the poop and do something about it than missing it entirely.

Just say no to smelly diapers.

Damn, I was going to write that.

I wanted a better (read: easier) way to add my flickr photos to my posts. I was all set to write my own WordPress plugin when I finally stumbled on one that was almost exactly what I wanted. Joe Tan‘s Flickr Post Bar is earily close to what I envisioned.

The only problem I have is that it sizes larger photos incorrectly.  I’m still looking into it. Update: It’s my fault — I need to adjust the page template to accomodate wider images.

If you have a WordPress blog and post flickr photos, you should check it out.

Granville Island Shoot

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Last Sunday, Ron (who needs a blog) and I went to Granville Island to shoot some pictures. Ron was exercising his new Canon 20D. I wasn’t happy with most of my shots, but here are a few.
